If you want to know what the weather is really like, go to the RNLI web-site, click through to get to local stations and you will get the most brilliant & detailed weatyher information - real time. It has historical data, plus you can change the units of measurements etc etc. As each lifeboat station has a site, one can get a really good picture of what is actually happening all around the coast. The Walton site has now become my home page! Interestingly yesterdat (10 March) highest wind at Walton -on -Naze was 67 MPH! THe portrayal of the data is quite brilliant! Take a look!

Hi David, thanks, that is a great tip. But there doesn't seem to be the same service for Harwich! I have added Walton to my favourites.

You ll find that not every lifeboat station has its own website. Individual station sites are just that - even though they are linked from the RNLI site but not managed by the RNLI HQ... The quality of the information on different sataion sites varies considerably! W.

Hi Camilla. Thank you very much for those. The weather folder in my favourites is now positively bulging! "Actuals" are of course no subsitute for forecasts, in that they don't tell you what is likely to happen next, but they are a vitally important part of the whole business of keeping up with the weather (an obsession for most yachtsmen) - not least because they tell you whether the forecast is actually coming true! The only snag is that we are all going to have so many weather favourites to keep regular tabs on to feed our obsessions that it will be hard to get any other work done when sitting at the computer!

And you ll find that they all differ - some considerably so you can chose which one you want to believe to suit what you d rather do! W.

An interesting site xc weather, but it doesn't seem to be able to zoom in and its very light on sea areas, interesting none the less. Personally for forecasts in UK waters I find wind guru the best! Even the non subscription stuff is very good!
