Hi all..... Jazz while you 'Blog'. 'A complete aside to sailing? Well not for me. Can I introduce you to a great radio station KNTU http://www.kntu.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=686&Itemid=35 I had to be up late this p.m....sorry a.m. to talk to my wife who is back in Texas to visit family. She was, in another life, at North Texas University studying music and we often have the University Jazz station on at the computer and I get great relaxation listening to it. Its a great companion when I'm blogging you guys and gals. The station and jazz are a bit like Marmite, you will either love it or hate it...give it a try and hit the button to listen 'Live' when you'r in. cheers, Scotty

Do other people have favourite music to sail or blog to? Must admit I can do without music while sailing - prefer to listen to wind, waves, birds etc. And I'm more of a baby-boomer-rock type at home. I don't mind classical, either. But I tend to agree with Scotty's 'Marmite' assesment of jazz!

Hi Cathy.... the sound of wind and waves and the feeling of close to nature must rate as some of the great experiences onboard. On a recent long cruise we forgot to take any CD's with us and being over 100 miles offshore for days we couldn't get decent reception on the radio. When we reached our destination and shopped in the local supermarket, the only artist I recognised in a hurry in the small music section was Amy Whitehouse. Her dulcit tones on a double CD album kept us going through the nights on our return trip, some great tracks! .... but you can have too much of a good thing! A good varied assortment of Jazz I find hard to resist. My wife and I actually first met in a Jazz club yet we also like a smattering of all sorts of good music depending on the mood from Gershwin to heavy Rock. Classic fm does give a good entry point for those who are inexperienced in enjoying classical music and I often use it as a relaxing background music in the office, yet can be a bit repetitive over the weeks and months. Cheers, Scotty

I just lurve cool jazz! They used to play some good stuff on Jazz FM in the evenings (crap the rest of the time) but that station is now Smooth FM and plays crap all of the time! There was another channel on digital called "The Jazz" that played some fantastic stuff; the only problem was that they never told you what it was. What is even worse is that the channel has now ceased transmitting. I have to grudgingly admit that Amy Whitehouse is pretty good (it may be partly due to the others around now being so bad) Unfortunately with her lifestyle, I doubt if she'll live long enough to become great. I also like classical, particularly the early stuff and I've often said (slightly tounge in cheek) that music lost the plot in 1759 when Handel died and didn't regain the plot untill some black guy invented jazz. I was a hippy when I was a kid (albeit a young one) but now that I've grown up; I've become a beatnik.

good on you Chas, have you tried the KNTU station? Some of the music played is not so great midday U.S time...they are 6 hours behind, but have a look at their schedule on the home page and pick your way through. It too can suffer adverts and the drawl of the Texan occassionally. (Thank goodness my wife is midatlantic) Have you tried the Jazz on Classic fm late at weekends... can't remember times? Also radio 3 has a smattering of jazz and I can't remember times either.

Hi Scotty Haven't tried KNTU but I will do. I do get to hear it on Claasic FM and R3 occasionally but my favorite passtime (apart from boating and one or two other things not mentionable on this forum) is rummaging through piles of second hand records in the collector's and charity shops. Much of it is so cheap that you can take risks and come out with about 10 LPs for the price of a couple of new CDs then go home and listen to it - wonderul stuff. Don't laugh but I'm considering getting an I Pod and a car radio with an I Pod connection for the boat. I can store what I want the I Pod then and not have to carry CDs around. I just need to suss out the easiest way of transfering LP to I Pod; whether I will have to record it onto CD first or if I will be able to connect the digital output from my CD recorder to a computer. Cheers Chas

Hi Chas, I was about to start looking into the radio/ipod/mp3 route for the boat myself. I'll be interested to know what system you think best, Scotty p.s. the 'unmentionables' make the mind boggle!)
