In my innocence thought that round Britain boat races went around Britain-in that case then the north and west Highlands of Scotland let alone The Hebrides;Orkneys and Shetland are not in Britain and the A82 up Loch Ness must be the sea.

Otherwise how come the Round Britain power boat race goes on trailers up the A82 from Fort William to Inverness? with a few poorer but more genuine competitors taking their boats thru the Caledonian Canal-at least they kept their boats in the water!

Yesterday, crossing the Thames Estuary on our way home from the Triangle, saw the Round Britain power boat racers heading south. They were travelling at unbelievable speed. Looked amazingly uncomfortable, bouncing from wave top to wave top. They were probably glad of the rest!

Must say that seeing them gave me absolutely no desire to have a go. The entire operation just looked like a gigantic waste of fossil fuel. So perhaps we should be glad, for the planet's sake, that they did not go the proper way!
