 I think I actually know the boat you had - she now resides in Sunderland Yacht Club and is called Nordic. I remember a conversation with a friend of mine who owns her and he said she was originally called Boxer!
They are great boats to sail and deserve to be looked after as they certainly look after you.
Nordic/Boxer now has a Yanmar 10 engine and a different radio but I can't remember the brand. The rest is pretty much as you described although the current owner has now managed to get one full length bunk in the forepeak as well.
She regularly does a weeks cruising up the Northumberland coast and has been to Holland several times as well as up to the Orkney isles a couple of years ago.

Hi Jude, thanks very much for the info. Is there any chance that you can put me in touch with present owner? I could fill him in with a lot of history (all positive!) if he is interested. I am so glad to know that she is still being enjoyed. As you say, they are great boats to sail. Our most memorable trip in her was from Harwich to Ijmuiden, downwind. It was really too windy to be doing it two up as relative novices, as we were then, and far too windy to think of turning back and going up wind, but she looked after us brilliantly. We owe her so much for turning us into sailors!

 It is always so great to hear of people finding out where there yachts are now. Harry was telling me an interesting story of a boat he actually built turning up somewhere and being ecstatic about her still being in use. Maybe you could enlighten the whole forum Harry?...

I remember Boxer at North Fambridge in the 1970s.
I've just been to a yacht club dinner and met the original owner, June, who is now quite elderly but she regaled me with tales of losing the rudder off the Galloper in a force 9, [she told me several stories in a few minutes but I can't remember half of them].
June still very much has her wits about her and would be interested in making contact with anyone who has owned Boxer over the years.
Her husband passed away a while ago, but I can remember him often saying that Boxer was his favourite boat of all he ever owned, and none of the newer, more comfortable boats were anything like as much fun.

Cathy have past on the details to the owner of Nordic. He confirms that it is the Hustler you mention in your article and intend to contact you sometime. His boat is currently moored next to me (Ragtime) at Sunderland Yacht Club, we have 3 Hustler 25.5 in the Club, Nordic, Midnight Cowboy and Ragtime. Do you know of any assossiation for Hustler 25.5 owners. I find the Hustler to be a good solid built boat, 2 sessons ago I fitted and Yanmer GM10 and are currently upgrading the electric's and instruments etc. Jeff

Hi Jeff. I am not aware of a Hustler 25.5 class association. Sounds as if you have the nucleus of one where you are! You are absolutely right: a good, solid boat, and a great performer for her size, especially upwind. The only problem we had with ours was the engine, a decidedly unreliable Petter Mini 6, so with your new engine and electronics you should have a perfect boat!

Lads, I came across Cathy Brown's review of the Hustler 25.5 quite by accident but would endorse her views. I have hull No. 4 (formerly named Tustling ... now renamed Thistle (Im a Scot) She is now based at Royal Cork YC in Ireland along with her sister ship Hull No 3 named Draiocht ... pronounced Dreeocht). They were 1972 builds. I bought Thistle in Weymouth 6 years ago and have had great fun racing her in Cork harbour and around the S. Coast of Ireland. She is a solid little boat and in all that time I have only experienced one "death roll" downwind in lumpy seas with 15kt of a following breeze!. I think that there are 4 - 5 other Hustlers based in Weymouth but saw Hull 5 up for sale in Practival Boat Owner recently. I would share the view that she is a pretty small cruiser, a bit dated by modern standards but well up there with the Sadler 25s, Trappers and other boats of 70s vintage. I don't know of an owners assosciation as I think there were only ~ 70 built but if any enthusiastic owner knows much about web design etc. I'd certainly be interested in participating.

 To lucky owners of Hustlers here - why not use Yahoo Groups to create an association ... it's the easy way to do it and no need to understand site creation etc. I did it for Searider Yachts - I have a Sunrider 25, based on the Searider24 hull and wanted to get owners together. Within a short space of time - I had over 50 owners signed up. Reviews, historys, comparisons all poured in. One of the best was one guys rip-out and redesign of interior.

Am searching for information from past owners of my Hustler 25.5, hull # 16.originally Red Robin now Lucy. She has crossed the Atlantic 3 times and long voyage to Carib. Is. now in Mass. USA. Much admired and rare here. A great boat and fine sailer. Rebuilt mast compression post last winter as post rusted out and broke at lower end,being a 2 inch iron pipe from 1973. Now OK.

Thanks Cathy. A Hustler chat group would be a fine idea. Each boat has a few custom additions-- for example mine has a very heavy rig with double spreaders, extra lower shrouds and a lead keel capped with a three inch thick wood spacer in order to have the same volume as an iron one but with a lower center of keel mass. She is not at all tender with the arrangement. Would like to come across a set of Hustler lines and plans. Have written Don Pye twice over the last year but no answer.

Cathy, is it possible to trace my 1973 Hustler by her O.N.360378 R.T.4 90/100 regitration number? Also mainsail is K 3467. These boats were sold through Island Boat Sales in West Mersea after manufacture by Landsmore. Landsmore hasn't been able to find much for me on these older boats. Somebody out there must know a bit about the history of these fine sailboats--hope so anyway.

Hi John. It ought to be possible to trace the boat by her registration number or sail number or both. I will see what I can find out.... The Hustler 25.5 we owned (hull no 6, 1972) was also built by Landamore, who of course now build gigantic Oysters.
