Sorry Ed, but I don't think that I agree. Chopping off any of the sky reduces the feeling of it being over your head and pulling you in towards the horizon as though you are in the scene.

Have to agree with Ed , by reducing the sky the sunset has more impact.

This picture gives me the sense of the open space which the photographer experienced.  The huge sky with its gentle hues reflects to me peace and tranquility at the end of a glorious day.
