Foulies for petite people

Hi, After reading Cathy's review on the Henri Lloyd high fits i went out and purchased a pair. Imagine my relief to at last find a pair of well fitting adjustable sallopettes that were designed for woman. Im one of those horrible skinny women who can never get gear to fit. Unfortunately the offshore jacket for women only had two pockets apart from the sleeve one so i found it not very practical for stuffing sail ties etc in. But over the bank holiday in a trip down to Malo the high fits were exceptional given the terrible weather conditions and on the bow they were practically swimming most of the way back to cowes. Does anyone have any suggestions on offshore jackets that are workable for very slim framed women but with good pockets like the mens. I have an old set of musto mpx but the jacket in a size 8 is still rather long.

All suggestions are most welcome.

Hi Helen, glad you liked the HLs. There does seem to be a slightly sexist assumption that women are more concerned about maintaining a sleek silhouette than having the pockets they need! Not being slender (!) I wear a man's jacket, with lots of pockets!

Thanx Cathy.

I have now resorted to buying childrens wear on ebay as there seems to be a rather large selection but not always as technical with performance.
As my friends say i act like a kid and am as small as one so might aswell dress like one too lol !

But at least kids' sailing gear is made to look like grown ups' and you have not suffered the fate of my (very) petite 30 something friend who was given children's boots from the ski hire shop - with cute penguin pictures on them!

Hi Helen. Thought you'd like to know that Musto has just announced that from now on its top of the range HPX Goretex Ocean jacket will be available in XS. Only snag is it costs £500.

The biggest issue here is that why aren't kids oilies made to the same spec as adults.

When my boys were younger I had an impossible task in trying to find high-quality technical oilies for them.

Yet if you think about it, Dad now has his high tech gear , Mum has hers (and after many years they make them so they almost fit for women), but the kids, who feel the cold, damp, wet etc much more than the adults can't get decent gear!

AND if you think about who is going to get hypothermia first, Dad with a decent beergut, Mum with several layers of what she keeps promising herself she'll diet off eventualy - or the kids with no fat, no reserves and usually who are not strong enough to do much on the boat - so don't even get the blood going round!

Its not just the oilies either, but the thermal layers underneath, just try buying them for an eight year-old and see how far you get!

No wonder so many kids get put off sailing.
